Duties and
Responsibilities:
You may arrive 10-15 minutes before the children arrive or class starts.
Prepare, or ensure, the classroom cleaner is present in the classroom.
(it must be locked always when not in use.
) Prepare the classroom by putting toys/materials out for the children.
Discuss with the Head Teacher the daily plans and what needs to be gathered or accomplished before the children arrive.
Work in cooperation with the Head Teacher of the program to implement the classroom lesson plan including working in large groups, small groups and individually with children.
Follow the daily schedule of the classroom as closely as possible but provide for flexibility when weather, child interest or other needs are required.
Set up the snack or lunch as needed.
Assist children with handwashing at all snack, meal, sensory and cleaning times.
Clean tables and floors as needed after snacks, meals, or crafts.
Observe the children to learn their interests and abilities.
Challenge them to try to accomplish new tasks and refrain from doing for the children what they can do for themselves.
Provide assistance to gain independence and build self-confidence.
If the teacher is absent due to illness or vacation, the assistant will be responsible for leading the class and for full implementation of the classroom's curriculum for that time.
Maintain supervision of children always including when outdoors, and at arrival and departure.
The classroom binder attendance sheet, individual child information and emergency procedures/numbers must accompany your class.
You must also bring th first aid kit with you.
Use positive guidance techniques to help children build self-control and learn to make good choices.
When discipline is required, follow the school's procedure.
Documenting any injury or accident that occur with children or staff on the proper paperwork.
At the end of your class time all materials and toys must be cleaned and put away.
The floor must be swept.
I you are the last class of the day please stack the chairs.
Attending required trainings such as but not limited to:
DCF Mandated Reporter, CPR AED training, Medication Epi Pen Training, Blood Borne Pathogen Training.
Participate in performance meetings and assessment with the Director, writing personal goals and striving to meet those goals in the allotted time.
Hiring Policy When enrollment indicates the need for additional staff or there are vacancies the following procedures will be implemented:
All qualifications listed on the Teacher and Assistant Teacher job descriptions will be closely adhered to.
Staff are welcome to suggest or recommend individuals for any open positions.
Any referred candidates will be assessed and if they meet the qualifications on the job description and proceed to the interviewing process.
All outside candidates will be screened based on the qualifications listed on the appropriate job description and proceed to the interviewing process when appropriate.
When determining wages offered to all new staff a Wage Calculation will be determined by the Director of Parks and Recreation.
Before an offer of hire can be made all candidates are required to complete the necessary background release, fingerprint cards, drug/alcohol screening and provide a physical form/TB screening within the last year.
Upon hire all new staff members will meet with the Director and review the employee handbook, job duties, policies and procedures as well as observe the classroom setting.
